QUANTITIES FOR YOUR OWN PRICING
Industrial Takeoff Services
Keep material quantities separate from your purchasing prices and installation rates. Request an industrial quantity takeoff for a single trade or a defined package across several trades.
For contractors preparing bids, fabricators checking material requirements and procurement teams comparing a drawing schedule with supplier scope.

CHOOSE THE MEASUREMENT PACKAGE
What needs counting or measuring?
Define the drawing set and the items to include. Measured quantities, procurement allowances and unresolved scope should remain distinguishable in the delivered schedule.
| Trade package | Quantity schedule | Documents to send |
|---|---|---|
| Process piping | Pipe lengths by line, size and specification; separately defined fittings, valves and connections. | Line list, isometrics, layouts and piping specifications. |
| Electrical | Conduit or tray routes, cable or conductor quantities, devices and equipment connections. | Single-lines, layouts, cable schedules and specifications. |
| Mechanical equipment | Equipment tags, setting scope, supports and defined utility connection items. | Equipment register, vendor scope and installation layouts. |
| Structural steel | Member quantities, lengths, scheduled weights and separately identified miscellaneous steel. | Framing plans, sections, details and member schedules. |
| Industrial concrete | Concrete volumes and defined formwork, reinforcement and embed quantities. | Foundation plans, sections, reinforcement details and schedules. |
For an existing-plant addition, identify demolition, retained work and new installation separately. For a manufacturing project or warehouse, state whether you need the building shell, fit-out, equipment interfaces or a combination.
A SCHEDULE YOUR TEAM CAN PRICE
Specify the takeoff deliverables.
Request an editable spreadsheet grouped by trade, system, line, equipment tag, work area or your bid codes. Agree the required columns before measurement starts.
- Item description, specification and measurement unit
- Measured quantity and source drawing reference
- Input revision and relevant measurement notes
- Separately identified allowances and excluded items
- Marked plans and a drawing register where included in the proposal
Inspect the format first
The piping workbook contains three dimensioned route segments and a revision comparison. Change an input to inspect the formulas; the example is an original worked format rather than a client project.

Choose a takeoff when your team will apply its own supplier prices, fabrication rates and installation costs. Choose a priced estimate when the assignment also needs a defined material, labor and equipment cost basis. The same measured item can have different commercial boundaries, so state whether it represents supply, fabrication, field installation or a combined package.
| Requested output | Included in the agreed assignment | Keep separate |
|---|---|---|
| Quantity-only takeoff | Measured quantities, units and drawing references for the named trades | Unit prices, wage rates, productivity and bid markups |
| Priced construction estimate | Agreed quantities plus the commissioned cost breakdown and documented pricing basis | Unquoted vendor packages, unresolved scope and contractor decisions outside the assignment |
| Revision comparison | Previous and current quantities with item-level additions, deletions and changes | Price changes and execution changes unless specifically requested |
Review the full estimate structure or see the revision comparison method.
Installed quantities and ordering quantities need different rules.
A route length is not automatically a pipe cut list or purchase order. Component takeouts, stock lengths, waste, spare materials and packaging require their own agreed basis. Cable routes and individual conductor lengths also need distinct units. Tell us whether you need an installed-work schedule, a purchasing schedule or both, and how allowances should be shown.
Send a package that can be quoted.
Identify the documents
Share current drawings, specifications, schedules and any addenda. Include the project city and state, required trades and bid deadline.
Agree the measurement rules
Confirm units, grouping, procurement allowances, vendor boundaries and any work that should be omitted. Missing details become questions or stated assumptions.
Confirm the fee and output
The proposal defines the assignment, delivery date, file format and revision arrangements. Drawing volume and complexity matter as well as building size.
Review the delivered schedule
Check the quantities against drawing references and stated boundaries. Later drawing changes should be identified by revision rather than silently mixed into the original set.
Questions before ordering an industrial takeoff
Can I order only one trade?
Yes. Name the trade, systems, areas and drawing revisions. A single piping or electrical package can be quoted separately from the rest of the facility.
Does a quantity-only takeoff include prices?
No. It is the measurement package for your own rates. If you need material, labor or equipment pricing, request a priced estimate and agree the sources and cost boundaries.
Can you work from a P&ID or single-line diagram alone?
These documents help identify systems but do not establish every installed length or detail. Send layouts, schedules and relevant specifications as well. The proposal should identify what can be measured and what requires further information.
Is there a fixed takeoff fee or delivery promise?
The fee and proposed delivery date depend on the actual drawing set, trade complexity, required output and revision scope. Send the package for a project-specific proposal.
